‘Hi-Fi Rush’ soundtrack removed from streaming without warning

The brilliant original soundtrack to Hi-Fi Rush has been removed from streaming without warning.

Rhythm action game Hi-Fi Rush was released in 2023 and went on to become a “breakout” hit for Microsoft. The game also featured a banging soundtrack of licensed music from Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy and The Black Keys alongside an excellent original score.

However, that original score was suddenly removed from streaming last night (November 10) without warning.

Some fans have speculated that it’s just a temporary thing after developers Tango Gameworks were acquired by Krafton last year, following Microsoft’s attempt to close the studio down. Explaining the decision, Xbox boss Matt Booty said the company were looking to focus on “high impact” titles.

“Hopefully the soundtrack gets added back and there’s just some processes going on in the background. But man this game really got fucked over. It was such a cool and unique game with lovable characters and a great soundtrack. Such a good melding of rhythm gameplay with hack and slash,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Good reminder for me to buy the game and download it. Almost every game with a licensed sound track has a shelf life,” added another fan.

For the time being, Hi-Fi Rush fans can buy the original soundtrack on Steam.

Speaking about the last minute decision to save Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP, Krafton boss Changhan ‘CH’ Kim said the “last minute” deal was about “legacy” rather than profit. “Although they did not have a big success in their games, we saw many creatives worth pursuing. That’s why we wanted to work with that organisation.”

“When I think about our fans, I think what they really care about is Hi-Fi Rush sequels,” he said. “We don’t think Hi-Fi Rush 2 is going to make us money, to be frank, but it’s a team that should be encouraged to create something new and continue their journey,” he added, confirming a sequel is in the works.

In other news, it’s been confirmed that the upcoming Mass Effect adaptation at Amazon will be an original story, set after the events of the gaming trilogy.
