HBO Max has announced a new price increase for subscribers, the streaming service’s third in three years.
Launched in 2020, HBO Max is owned by Warner Bros Discovery, and is the usual destination for all titles owned by the company, including the DC Universe, HBO, and Harry Potter libraries. As of May 2025, it boasts 122.3million subscribers worldwide.
The service isn’t currently available in the UK, but is believed to be arriving in early 2026. Currently, HBO Max shows such as The Last Of Us and The White Lotus air on Sky.
On Tuesday (October 21), Warner Bros Discovery announced that the cost of their plans would be rising.
The price increases are as follows: HBO Max Basic With Ads, the streamer’s entry level tier, would rise by $1 to $10.99 per month, or $10 to $109.99 per year. HBO Max Standard, an ad free tier, will rise $1.50 to $18.49 monthly, or $15 to $185.99 yearly. HBO Max Premium, which offers 4K content in addition to no ads, rises $2 to $22.99 per month, and $20 to $229.99 per year.
Prices will be effective immediately for new subscribers, while those already subscribed on a monthly bases will see prices increase by the next billing date after November 20. The rise will not kick in for yearly subscribers until their next renewal.

Last month, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealed at a technology conference that he felt HBO Max was “underpriced”.
“We’re not trying to be everything to everybody” he said (via The Independent). “And the fact that this is quality, and that’s true across our company, Motion Picture, TV production and streaming quality. We think that gives us a chance to raise price.”
It’s the third price rise for the service, with previous hikes coming in 2023 and 2024. It comes after competitor Netflix raised its prices in February, a move that subscribers online called “ridiculous and greedy”.
