Following on from the intense lead single ‘Enough Is Enough‘, which was shared back in April, and the follow-up ‘Paint A Picture’, the new single sees Pelle Almqvist and co. deliver thunderous riffs and thumping drum lines, as they call for listeners to live their lives to the fullest.

Leash is getting shorter, and the walls are closing in/ Anything you are into, they are saying it’s a sin,” Almqvist sings, staring directly into the camera after the punk-tinged intro. “See them singing their songs/But you won’t see me singing along/ They say it can’t be done/ But I say they are all wrong”.

Speaking of the new track, the band shared: “Have you ever felt as though life is strangling you a little bit every day? Like a tight rollneck or the hands of an invisible garden gnome? Do you feel like they are putting you in ever smaller cages and on ever tighter schedules? Are you relating to Michael Douglas in Falling Down? You are not crazy!

“Governments all over the world have slowly but surely taken steps to make living itself illegal. Stop normalising this normalisation! Join The Hives in the campaign for the legalization of living across all countries! Things must change now!”

For The Hives, their seventh album arrives following 2023’s ‘The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons’, which was their first LP in 11 years. The members announced the record via a livestream from Mexico City, and also hailed it as “a new record so full of energy, joy, anger and life that you will be questioning reality as you have known it”.

Speaking to NME about the album this spring, the frontman said: “The Hives are back again: faster than expected and better than ever. I really think this album is my favourite Hives album.

“After 30 years of being a band, we’re at the peak of our powers. That doesn’t happen a lot. I’ve studied rock history and it’s super rare. Judge for yourselves, but I’m assuming you’re going to agree.”

He also explained why ‘Enough Is Enough’ was chosen as the lead single, adding: “I think ‘Enough Is Enough’ got picked as a single really early when there were demos because our manager thought it would sell concert tickets.

“They wanted to release that first because it’s got a big riff and it’s a perfect tempo for a crowd to jump up and down. It got picked so early when the other songs weren’t done, but I really like how it starts: ‘Everyone’s a little fucking bitch…’ That’s as close to political commentary as you’re gonna get! Basically, ‘Fuck both sides. ’”

Later this year, The Hives will embark on a UK and European tour, which includes dates at OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Aviva Studios in Manchester and Alexandra Palace in London. Visit here for remaining tickets and more information.
