“The first-ever sequel from Supergiant Games builds on the best aspects of the original god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler in an all-new, action-packed, endlessly replayable experience rooted in the Underworld of Greek myth and its deep connections to the dawn of witchcraft,” reads an official description.

“As the immortal Princess of the Underworld, you’ll explore a bigger, deeper mythic world, vanquishing the forces of the Titan of Time with the full might of Olympus behind you, in a sweeping story that continually unfolds through your every setback and accomplishment.”

According to review aggregate site Metacritic, Hades 2 has a score of 94 out of 100, making it “universally acclaimed” and beating Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (which has Metacritic score of 93), Hollow Knight: Silksong (92), Blue Prince (92), Split Fiction (91) and Donkey Kong Bananza (91).

“That the studio can still dole out the surprises after how rich and textural Hades was, and that I still find myself floored by the ambition, the detail, the art, the technical prowess, and the willingness to cede control to players some 60-plus hours in is miraculous. Maybe it’s witchcraft. Maybe it’s magic. Either way, it’s epic,” said Eurogamer in their glowing review.

“How do you even sum up something as beautiful, special, memorable, and admirable as Hades 2? It’s the type of video game that reminds me why I love video games so damn much,” wrote IGN in their five-star review.

“How many Game Of The Year contenders have we had so far? Somehow, we have probably had the best year for gaming in the whole decade without realising it,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “If you’re still able to doom and gloom about gaming at this point, you need to find a new hobby because the games are coming out whether you’re playing them or not,” added another.

“Between Silksong and this, I’m glad that smaller devs are showing that you don’t need $300 mil and 800 people to make a fantastic game,” said a third.
