Grimes reveals “innovative” new face tattoo – says “literally no one noticed”

Grimes has drawn attention to a new tattoo she got on her face which she says “literally no one noticed”.

The ‘Genesis’ singer took to Instagram to share a photo highlighting the new ink, and say that she was surprised to see that not even family members seemed to notice it.

The new design shows a large circle that encompasses her left eye, and is seen in the new photo that shows her without make-up.

“Spent like 10 years emotionally working up to a face tattoo,” she began the caption, going on to reference how she showed it off in the new music video for her song ‘Artificial Angels’. “But I guess I drew on my face too much and literally no one noticed, not even my parents, not even after the video lol.”

She went on to highlight how it is a cybersigilism design, which blends together cyberpunk aesthetics and ancient symbolism, and thanked her tattoo artist for capturing the design she had in mind.

“That said I think @glyphomancer is onto something truly novel and innovative with her work esp on face tats,” Grimes added. “There’s a true beauty, delicacy, and innovation here imo.”

“Feel like tats are in a crazy renaissance period that’s sort of under appreciated atm.”

This isn’t the first time that Grimes has reflected her personal aesthetics in body art, back in 2021 she had a large neo-tribal piece tattooed on her back, and earlier this year she got a white, hand-poked design put on her right shoulder.

The latter was done just before the musician took to social media to call out the intense beauty standards being pushed online and in the media.

“Do any other women feel like ur being choked to death on beauty culture?” she wrote on X, after seeing an ad online for a makeup store. “Can I go somewhere where someone isn’t shoving ‘DONT YOU WANT TO BE BEAUTIFUL’ down my throat.

“The insidiousness of what our culture does to young women is insane. I feel enraged knowing I won’t be able to protect my daughter from this. What a monumental waste of mental space.”

Grimes’ new song ‘Artificial Angels’ arrived earlier this week and was written from the perspective of artificial intelligence. It comes amid a huge ongoing debate about the use of AI, and follows on from other of Grimes’ songs that touch on the subject, including ‘I Wanna Be Software’.

The title makes a nod to her 2015 album ‘Art Angels’, and the cover for the single is made by Grimes and consists of various internet memes made about her and her outlook on tech. Check out the music video below.

The track follows on from another single called ‘idgaf’, which was shared back at the start of the year. Before then, her last new music as a solo artist was 2022’s ‘Shinigami Eyes’.

Since then, the artist has worked with Magdalena Bay, Illangelo, Svedaliza, and more for collaborations, but hasn’t shared a full album since 2020’s ‘Miss Anthropocene’.
