Gears Of War developers have confirmed that long-awaited prequel E-Day will launch at some point next year.
The new mainline entry in the Gears Of War series, the first since 2019’s Gears 5, was announced last summer during the Xbox Games Showcase.
A prequel set 14 years before the events of the 2007 original, Gears Of War: E-Day “tells the story of the first Locust emergence on Sera.” It will once again feature Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, and has been billed as an origin story.
Now Xbox has announced that Gears Of War: E-Day will be released at some point next year. The confirmation came via the series’ official X account, with the updated bio reading: “Reloaded launches August 26th. Emergence Begins 2026.”

Fans are speculating that the game could launch in November 2026, which is the series’ 20th anniversary, while others are hoping for more news to be unveiled later this month during Gamescom.
Gears Of War: E-Day will launch for Xbox and PC. The official description reads: “Experience the brutal horror of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix in the origin story of one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas. 14 years before Gears of War, war heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege on humanity itself.”

Before then, a remastered version of the original Gears Of War is due to be released. Reloaded will launch August 26 and will see the iconic Xbox franchise available on PlayStation for the very first time. However an open beta for Reloaded saw fans criticising the remaster, with many complaining about poor performance, bugs and issues with cross-play.
Developers have since claimed that was all part of the plan. “Our goal for the beta was to test and evaluate online multiplayer systems, cross-platform play, and game stability – and test we did. We appreciate your time and feedback.”
In other news, The Sims rival inZOI will be available to PlayStation players next year, while an Xbox launch is also being considered.
