Back in 2020, T.O.P announced his departure from the entertainment industry in 2020 after he was charged with smoking marijuana at home. Then, he left Big Bang in 2023, and he appeared in the second season of Netflix’s hit series Squid Game.

Earlier this year, he hinted at his return to music this year. Now, The Korea Herald has exclusively reported that the musician is due to make his solo return with a full-length album between October and December this year.

“T.O.P’s studio album is scheduled for release sometime in or after October. He has completed recording and plans to shoot several music videos. An art director of Squid Game will oversee the production,” an industry source told The Korea Herald.

Further details remain unknown at the time and no formal announcements have been made by the musician. His last solo release was the single ‘Doom Dada’ in 2014.

Speaking to NME earlier this year, T.O.P revealed at the time that he had no “concrete ideas” about future acting projects. “What I am currently hoping to do is share with the world T.O.P – me as a musician – because I will be sharing my music [for the first time] in almost a decade.”

The multi-hyphenate shared how being back in the studio and making music again were pivotal to his healing. “In order to quite literally live, I turned to creating music,” T.O.P shared. “That’s when I learned that, only when I was in my music [or] standing in front of the mic, I was able to breathe.”

When asked about what to expect from his return to music, T.O.P added that it was “part of my responsibility as a musician” to share what he has so far. “Over the years, I spent a lot of time really thinking about and regretting what I have done, and I spent a lot of time on self-reflection as well,” the K-pop idol explained.
