Yorgos Lanthimos is back with another daring vision—and this time, he’s teaming up once again with frequent collaborator Emma Stone. Bugonia has already stunned audiences at Cannes and Venice, where it received a six-minute standing ovation. With its bizarre premise, bold performances, and Lanthimos’ signature surrealist style, this is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about films of 2025.

Trailer, Cast + Plot
The first trailer for Bugonia set the tone: part dark comedy, part sci-fi thriller, and entirely unsettling.
Adapted from the 2003 South Korean cult classic Save the Green Planet!, the film follows two conspiracy theorists who kidnap a pharmaceutical CEO, convinced she’s actually an alien in disguise.

Emma Stone stars as Michelle, the abducted executive who may—or may not—be out of this world. Jesse Plemons plays Teddy, a troubled beekeeper obsessed with extraterrestrials, while newcomer Aidan Delbis joins him as his partner-in-crime. Comedian Stavros Halkias plays a local cop trying to piece things together, and Alicia Silverstone appears as his mother.
The title itself, Bugonia, is a nod to an ancient Greek myth linking bees with death and rebirth—an eerie tie-in to Plemons’ character’s beekeeping obsession.

Release Date
After its successful premieres at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival, Bugonia is set for a wide theatrical release on October 31, 2025. Fans eager for an early look can catch limited screenings beginning October 24, 2025.
With festival buzz already building and Emma Stone’s radical transformation (she shaved her head for the role) dominating headlines, Bugonia is shaping up to be one of the must-see movies of the year.
