The first season of The Office spin-off show The Paper is streaming now, but what songs are on the soundtrack? Find out below.

Created by Greg Daniels, who adapted the original British version of the sitcom for the hugely successful US remake, and Michael Koman, the mockumentary takes place in the same universe as Scranton’s Dunder Mifflin.

All 10 episodes of the show landed on streaming platform Peacock in the US on Thursday (September 4), with episodes arriving on Sky and NOW TV in the UK a day later.

The show stars Domhnall Gleeson as an idealistic new employee looking to revive the title, with Sabrina Impacciatore portraying the paper’s managing editor. The supporting cast includes Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and British comedian and actor Tim Key (This Time With Alan PartridgeThe Ballad Of Wallis Island).

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant – who co-created/co-wrote the original version of The Office – serve as executive producers, along with Howard Klein and Ben Silverman.

The Office US star Steve Carell said last year that he definitely won’t be reprising his role. “I will be watching but I will not be showing up,” he explained. “It’s just a new thing, and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that.” He did, however, crash the first day of filming, alongside co-star John Krasinski, to wish them good luck.

In a four-star review, NME wrote: “Tim Key may be a scene-stealer but he’s matched by Impacciatore, who imbues narcissistic Esmeralda with deranged dignity. Quite often, she’s the agent of chaos who busts this show out of its comfort zone. In one episode, she becomes convinced that office duffer Barry (Duane R. Shepard Sr.) is an incubus pursuing her in her dreams. Does it all add up to watercooler TV? Probably not, but The Paper is definitely worth a binge on your next annual leave day.”

While the original UK version of The Office made memorable use of ‘Handbags & Gladrags’ as its theme song, the US remake made use of an original instrumental by The Scrantones, composed by Jay Ferguson.

The Paper has taken a similar path for its theme song, using an original track named ‘Song From The Ninth Floor’, written by Nick Thorburn, of Islands and The Unicorns, and Patrick Ford. The single was released on Friday (September 5) via Lakeshore Records.
