The cast list for the Hunger Games prequel, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes continues to grow. The latest addition to the cast is Hunter Schafer of Euphoria fame. Schafer signed on to play Tigris Snow, the cousin of Coriolanus. Tigris also acts as Coriolanus’s close confidante, helping advise him throughout the events of the story.

Hunter Schafer joins the established cast, which includes various tributes and mentor figures in the Hunger Games universe. If you remember the original movies or the source material books, you’ll be familiar with tributes as the participants in the titular games and mentors as the ones who advise them. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will tell the story of Coriolanus Snow, the eventual tyrant President of Panem who was originally portrayed by Donald Sutherland. The 18-year-old Snow will be played by Tom Blyth as he is called on to be a mentor of a young District 12 tribute named Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). Snow is initially disappointed with being assigned to the impoverished District 12, as he is trying to bring back the good name of his family. However, after Baird sings at the reaping ceremony, Snow sees an opportunity to combine her showmanship with his political gamesmanship to turn the odds in their favor.

Along with Hunter Schafer, Rachel Zegler, and Tom Blyth, the current cast list includes Jerome Lance, Knox Gibson, Mackenzie Lansing, Aamer Husain, and Ashley Liao. Francis Lawrence will be directing with a screenplay by Micahel Arndt and Michael Lesslie. Suzanne Collins (author of the original series), Tim Palen, and Jim Miller executive produce with Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Lawrence producing. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is based on the prequel book of the same name by Suzanne Collins. This will be the first feature film from the Hunger Games series since we saw the end of the Jennifer-Lawrence starring franchise in 2015 with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2.

Zendaya and Hunter Schafer in Euphoria

Hunter Schafer most recently reprised her role as Jules in season 2 of Euphoria. Her next big role will be in the film Cuckoo, with the plot being kept under wraps for now. Cuckoo is directed and written by Tilman Singer. Along with Schafer, the movie will star Sofia Boutella, Gemma Chan, John Malkovich, Zita Hanrot, Proschat Madani, and Jan Bluthardt. There isn’t currently a release date for Cuckoo, but it is in the pre-production stages. As for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, we can expect to see Schafer and the rest of the cast bring back the dystopian world of the Hunger Games on November 17, 2023. Right now, our only look at the prequel series is some cast pictures and a brief teaser trailer. The teaser doesn’t give us much to go off, just revealing the title and the logo for the film. We’ll be sure to let you know when more news about the highly anticipated prequel is revealed.
