Eminem is OK with being known as “that guy from ‘Fortnite’”

It seems that Eminem is OK with being known as “that guy from Fortnite”.

Eminem is one of the biggest hip-hop stars around. Not only has he sold more than 220million records and inspired the likes of Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd and Doechii but he’s credited with popularising rap music in Middle America.

He’s also been heavily involved in online video game Fortnite. 2023’s The Big Bang live event saw live performances from Eminem, as well as Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Marshmello and The Kid Laroi. It was watched by more than 11million people. A number of Eminem skins, emotes and weapons were also added to the game.

The following year, Eminem returned to Fortnite as part of the game’s remixed season two alongside Ice Spice, Juice WRLD and Snoop Dogg. “Guess who’s back, ready for combat, man! I’m serving all new gear along with a side of spaghetti…come and get it! Feels good to return to Fortnite for more mayhem,” Eminem said, announcing his return.

Now one brave fan has confronted Eminem about his Fortnite collabs. Appearing backstage, Eminem was greeting fans when one shouted out “yo, it’s the guy from Fortnite”. Eminem initially looked shocked by the heckle before laughing. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding,” the fan quickly added. Now the exchange is going viral on social media.

“Imagine making THE Eminem laugh,” one fan wrote. “Bro is probably holding in so much rage from that,” said another.

Speaking back in 2023, Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg revealed the collab came about after his son got excited about Travis Scott’s in-game appearance. “I started to really pay close attention to it and saw the massive platform that’s inside and the power that it had over fans and players and gamers,” Rosenberg explained, who then reached out to the Fortnite team. “The Epic Games folks came back and said, ‘This is incredible that you’re getting in touch with us, because [Eminem] is one of the top people requested from our players all the time’.”

Last week, Epic Games’ boss Tim Sweeney hit back at claims that Fortnite’s high-profile collabs were “ruining” video games. “Every game developer’s mission is to make the most fun game possible. And the development of Fortnite since it launched in 2017 has been in the pursuit of fun. All these cross-over events are enabling everybody to benefit from the rising tide that lifts all ships.”

In other news, the team behind Silent Hill f has defended their decision to add more action and Elden Ring-style combat into the game.
