Elden Ring developers FromSoftware have delayed a highly-anticipated update for Nightreign due to a number of tsunami warnings in effect across America and Japan.
Yesterday (July 29) an earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale hit eastern Russia. The tremor was one of the most powerful on record (via the BBC) and caused ripples across the Pacific ocean, with a number of western US states and south American countries issuing tsunami warnings. Two million people in Japan have also been evacuated due to the threat of tsunami.
Because of this, Elden Ring developers have announced that their planned Nightreign update has been delayed by 24 hours.
The 1.02 patch was set to introduce the long-awaited two-player mode to multiplayer spin-off Nightreign. It was due to go live at 9am today (July 30) but will now launch tomorrow (July 31) at 9am BST.
The planned launch of the second cycle of Everdark Sovereign boss has also been delayed until after the new update is released. “Thank you for understanding,” developers wrote on social media.
Additionally, the second cycle of Everdark Sovereign, which was scheduled to start at 03:00 CEST | 18:00 PDT (7/30) tomorrow, will also be delayed until after the update file has been distributed.
Thank you for your understanding.

Before Elden Ring: Nightreign launched in May, director Junya Ishizaki said the two-player feature was “simply overlooked” during development and apologised for not including it.

Ishizaki went on to say the main focus was the three-player co-op but they also “put a lot of effort” into creating a solo-player experience. “In putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well,” he added.
Following backlash from players, the single-person mode was also made easier following the game’s launch in May. In a three-star review, NME wrote: “Ultimately, Nightreign will live or die by the community that grows around it. If you loved the original Elden Ring, Nightreign is a playful reimagining that offers another 40 hours of epic combat. But if you weren’t sold the first time around, there’s nothing here that will change your mind.”
In other news, Nintendo has released a new update for Mario Kart World that some fans are saying has “saved” the game.
