Michael C. Hall has confirmed that Dexter: Resurrection is returning for a second season, with the writers’ room now “assembling”.
The show is a sequel to both the original Dexter and Dexter: New Blood and the 10 episodes of season one premiered over the summer on Paramount+.
They saw Hall return as the forensic blood spatter analyst-turned-vigilante serial killer Dexter Morgan, picking up after the climax of New Blood with Dexter in a coma after being shot by his son Harrison (Jack Alcott).
Now, in a video posted to social media on Wednesday (October 8), Hall has shared the good news with fans. “First of all, I just want to thank all the fans for tuning in and taking the Dexter: Resurrection ride with us this summer, I hope you enjoyed it.”
“And secondly,” he continued, “we have been greenlit for another season. There’s more to come. The writers’ room is assembling now and details will be forthcoming, but I want to be the first to let you know that the story continues.”
As Hall recently told NME, he initially thought he had left the Dexter character behind for good after the climax of New Blood. “I thought that was it,” he admitted, “but there had been some – somewhat in jest – conversations I’d had casually about, if nothing else, the recognition that he didn’t get shot in the head, and it was very cold on that forest floor, so it remained a remote possibility. But I didn’t think that he would [actually] get revived.”

He continued: “I found myself increasingly compelled by the notion that the end of the New Blood series could represent some threshold he could cross that would perhaps lead him back to something he’s probably been longing for since halfway through the season proper – a return to a more unencumbered relationship to his code [that only ensures he kills deserving cases] and who he actually is. And maybe there was some sort of burden that he’d been carrying for some time that he could be released from.”
The original Dexter ran for eight seasons on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, while Dexter: New Blood served as a continuation of the character’s arc for 10 episodes in 2021. A prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, was set in 1991 and served as an origin story for Dexter Morgan. It aired in 2024 but has not been renewed for a second season.
