Cyberpunk 2 Looks Like It Will Include Online Multiplayer, According To Job Listing

A new job posting by CD Projekt Red strongly implies that online multiplayer will be a part of Cyberpunk 2, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The description specifically states that the employee will “lead [their] team to develop and optimize multiplayer systems, including matchmaking.”

CD Projekt Red posted that the company was hiring for Cyberpunk 2 on X, with the official job title being Lead Network Engineer. “As a Lead Network Engineer, you and your team will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the network architecture and online systems,” the description says. “You will lead and manage a team of talented engineers, working collaboratively to ensure seamless and robust online systems.”

In January 2024, CD Projekt joint CEO Adam Badowski noted that they were considering multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2. In fact, there were plans for multiplayer either as part of Cyberpunk 2077 or as a standalone spin-off years ago. However, CD Projekt Red axed that multiplayer project in 2022 after the turbulent launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020.

Cyberpunk 2 is most likely a long way off from being released, as CD Projekt Red focuses on The Witcher 4 next. It’s possible that while online multiplayer is planned currently for Cyberpunk 2, development alters things like it did with Cyberpunk 2077. Keep in mind the studio hasn’t officially announced online multiplayer, either.
