Coldplay’s viral “kiss cam” captures Lionel Messi and his wife in Florida

The “kiss cam” Coldplay have at their live shows has gone viral once again, this time showing Lionel Messi and his wife.

The feature of the show, which shows unsuspecting people in the audience shown on the huge screens, made headlines earlier this month when it showed Astronomer boss Andy Byron with his arms around a woman.

The moment, which took place at the Gillette Stadium near Boston as part of the band’s ‘Music Of The Spheres’ tour dates, showed the businessman appearing mortified and lunching out of view of the shot. It led to many, including frontman Chris Martin, suspecting that they were caught having an affair.

“Oh, look at these two. Come on, you’re OK. Oh what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” the singer said. “Oh shit, I hope we didn’t do something bad,” he then added.

Now, the segment of the show has got people talking again – this time for the surprise appearance from legendary football player Lionel Messi.

At the band’s recent show at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, this weekend, the “kiss cam” struck again when it landed on the Inter Miami CF star and his wife, Antonela.

During their appearance on the screens, Martin serenaded them by singing: “Well Leo, my beautiful brother. You and your wife are looking so fine. Thanks for coming today to see our band play, the number one sports person of all time!”

The moment at the Florida show was much more wholesome than the aforementioned incident in Boston. After footage of the Gillette Stadium gig went viral, the internet was quick to identify Andy Byron and the man, and claim that the woman in question was Kristin Cabot, the HR chief of the same company.

Days later, it was revealed that Byron had resigned from Astronomer in the wake of the incident. He had served as CEO of the company since 2023, while Cabot allegedly joined as Chief People Officer nine months ago.

Then, last week (July 25), it was announced that Cabot had also stepped down from her role as chief people officer.

Coldplay have continued to make quips about the mishap at their following shows. At a later gig, he said: “We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd and put some of you on the big screen… Please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now!”

Astronomer then issued a response to the situation as well, enlisting actor Gwyneth Paltrow – who is also Chris Martin’s ex-wife – as a temporary spokesperson.

“We’ve been thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation,” she said, then making a tongue-in-cheek comment that there will be new recruits on the way for an upcoming conference in September.

Other ways in which the “kiss cam” footage went viral came when there was a video game launched that was inspired by the viral couple, and when Liam Gallagher joked about the incident at a recent Oasis gig – telling fans not to “worry” as there’s no cameras zooming into the crowd at their gigs

After Coldplay wrap up their US shows, they will head across the pond for the UK leg of tour dates. These will see £1 from every ticket sold being donated to support grassroots venues.

To make commuting to the gigs easier for fans and more eco-friendly, there will be a shuttle bus named after Coldplay’s hit ‘Yellow’, which will carry fans to two ‘Music Of The Spheres’ shows in Hull next month. The concerts also include multiple stops at Wembley Stadium that run between August 22 and September 8.
