A fan-made crossover between Chappell Roan and detective video game Ace Attorney has gone viral following the pop star’s headline set at Reading Festival.
The first entry in the visual novel franchise Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was released in 2001 and spawned five sequels, including 2016’s Spirit Of Justice. The series has also inspired a movie adaptation, a comic book series and a number of spin-off games.
It’s also given the world a meme which sees Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney pointing at the judge and shouting “objection!”. Now it’s been given a Chappell Roan makeover.
Over the weekend, Chappell Roan headlined Reading & Leeds Festivals and, for her Reading set, took inspiration from Disney villains and witch folklore. A photo from that performance has been used to replace Phoenix Wright in Ace Attorney and the image has blown up online.
“I put Chappell Roan in Ace Attorney,” explained the viral Tweet, which has now been viewed more than 1.8million times.

“Plot twist: she’s the judge, jury and glam executioner,” replied one fan. “No one points better,” said another. “God this is perfect.” added a third. One fan took things one step further, drawing Chappell Roan in the style of the Ace Attorney games.

Last year, Chappell Roan encouraged one fan to keep taking photos of her gig using a Nintendo DS console. She also confirmed she was a “Switch girl” and is obsessed with Mario Kart. It’s perhaps why the follow-up to 2023’s ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’ still isn’t finished. Earlier this month, Roan confirmed she has “no idea” what her next album will sound like. “I think that once this is done and the US shows are done, it’ll definitely feel like a big breath of weight off my shoulders just so I can chill for a sec and actually think about writing. But we’re almost done with the victory lap.”
In a five-star review of her Reading performance, NME wrote: “Throughout the performance, there’s a feeling of camaraderie and community in the crowd. Strangers become new acquaintances, the ‘Hot To Go’ dance unites everyone in clumsily trying to remember the moves and in the right order, and before ‘Red Wine Supernova’, everyone raises pink cowboy hats and pink bandanas aloft. It feels like tens of thousands of like-minded people who’ve all got the same memo and have been brought together with the same intentions.”
