During Wednesday’s (October 15) episode, the offending sound was heard during a tense moment. Host Claudia Winkleman asked “What just happened?” as contestants burst into fits of laughter. Imrie confessed: “I just farted, Claudia. It’s nerves, but I always own up.” Her fellow celebrities laughed even louder, although Winkleman assured her: “I always own up too.”

On X (formerly Twitter), one account wrote: “Celia Imrie farting in a room full of celebrities is TV gold”. Another added: “this show nails camp in every possible way. just obsessed.”

Some fans cheekily suggested it may be award-winning. “Celia Imrie winning a BAFTA for best ‘on-screen fart’ was not something I was expecting this year” commented one, with another adding: “Celia Imrie owning her fart like it’s a BAFTA moment. Queen behaviour.”

Some went even further in their praise. “Right that’s it” one wrote. “Everyone pack up and go home. We’re never beating Celia fucking Imrie dropping her guts on prime time T.V. We’ve peaked as a nation.” Another added: “STOP THE COUNT, CELIA IMRIE WITH THE TV MOMENT OF THE YEAR!”

The celebrity spin-off to The Traitors had its first episode on October 8, with the series running for nine episodes concluding on October 24.

Famous faces from all areas of entertainment have gathered at Ardross Castle in Scotland for the series – singers Paloma Faith and Charlotte Church; sportsmen Tom Daley and Joe Marler; and presenters Clare Balding and Sir Stephen Fry. The series follows the epic finale of the main show’s third season, which was the most watched episode in the show’s history.

However, it’s comedian Alan Carr who has emerged as a fan favourite, with viewers enjoying his antics on the first episode.
