‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7’ is getting mixed reviews from fans

Call Of Duty fans are giving Black Ops 7 mixed reviews following the start of an early access beta.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 follows on from last year’s Black Ops 6 and is a direct sequel to 2012’s Black Ops 2. The game is set to launch November 14 and is the first time in Call Of Duty history that there have been two consecutive entries in the same franchise.

Yesterday (October 2), players who pre-ordered the game were given early access to an open beta. Over the next few days, they’ll be able to play a handful of new maps (the Forge, Cortex, Exposure, and Imprint) and try out multiplayer game modes ‘Team Deathmatch’, ‘Domination’, ‘Hardpoint’ and ‘Kill Confirmed’. Later today (October 3) new game mode ‘Overload’ will be made available alongside ‘Zombies Survival’ and tomorrow will see the launch of ‘Search & Destroy’.

After playing it for a few hours, Call Of Duty fans are already divided over Black Ops 7 though.

“Must say I am really enjoying it so far. Not nearly as fast as Black Ops 6 for me. Gunplay feels nice. Decent maps. Run animation is a bit clunky for my liking,” wrote one Reddit user. “Feels really smooth to me. Movement is not as slippery as Black Ops 6 (which is good to me). Maps don’t feel like brain rot either. The wall jumping adds a cool aspect,” said another.

However, other fans hate the fact all doors have been replaced by automatic ones while others can’t really notice a difference between the two recent games.

Black Ops 7 is the most re-skin Call Of Duty I’ve ever played. I’ve never played a Call Of Duty game that’s felt so much like the previous game in my life until this. Literally just Black Ops 6 map dlc,” one fan wrote on X.”Anyone else having zero fun?” asked another. Earlier this month, a senior Call Of Duty developer admitted he was worried about Black Ops fatigue after the back-to-back releases.

And despite promises about a “full force” crackdown on cheats, players are already claiming the beta has been overrun by cheaters. “Shouldn’t really be any surprise, they probably don’t even need to make many adjustments to get cheats to work when the game is fundamentally the same as the last,” offered one fan.

Earlier this week, the team behind the upcoming Battlefields 6 stoked their rivalry with Call Of Duty with a little help from Hollywood heavyweight Zac Efron, UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett, professional basketball player Jimmy Butler and country singer Morgan Wallen. EA’s Battlefield 6 is due to launch October 10.
