‘Call Of Duty’ “authentic” live-action movie adaptation confirmed

The rumoured Call Of Duty live-action film adaptation has finally been confirmed and will be inspired by Top Gun: Maverick.

There has been a lot of speculation about a live-action Call Of Duty adaptation over the years but now the project has been officially confirmed, as part of a deal between Activision and Paramount.

According to a joint statement, the live-action feature film is “designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series” but will also “expand the franchise to entirely new audiences.

“Both companies are committed to honoring the brand’s rich narrative and distinctive style, promising an authentic and exciting experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike,” it continued.

There’s been no announcement about director, cast, plot details or release date. It’s also not known which of the many different Call Of Duty games the adaptation will be inspired by.

“As a lifelong fan of Call Of Duty this is truly a dream come true. From the first Allied campaigns in the original Call Of Duty, through Modern Warfare and Black Ops, I’ve spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love,” said Paramount boss David Ellison.

“We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve,” he added. “I can promise that we are resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honours the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand.”

“The film will honour and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place, and we cannot wait to get started,” added Activision president Rob Kostich. “Our shared goal is quite simple — to create an unforgettable blockbuster movie experience that our community loves, and one that also excites and inspires new fans of the franchise.”

Earlier this year, Xbox boss Phil Spencer shut down rumours that a live-action Call Of Duty adaptation was in the works following the success of A Minecraft Movie. “The video game business is successful by itself. It doesn’t need this outlet,” he explained. “Let’s never turn this into something where every franchise has to have a game or a movie or a TV show. It’s got to be about the creative outlet that linear media offers for our franchises.”

In other news, Rayman creators Ubisoft have confirmed a new game is in the works – but don’t expect it to launch any time soon.
