Just like Battlefield 6, Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone are adding a new combat-roll feature, and now we know what it looks like in action. Some are saying it doesn’t look very good.
As you can see in the video below from the recent Call of Duty: Next event, the combat-roll ability has the camera switch from first- to third-person. Some are saying it looks clunky. See for yourself:
Bespoke movement is coming to Call of Duty #Warzone with increased base sprint speeds and attaching tac sprint to the Sprinter Perk.
We are also excited to bring the new #BlackOps7 Combat Roll mechanic – available via the Mountaineer Perk. pic.twitter.com/MUhuIRh1rw

How to unlock combat roll in Call of Duty
The combat roll mechanic is not a default player-feature in Black Ops 7 or Warzone–instead, players have to unlock it via the Mountaineer perk.
The combat roll allows players to reduce damage taken when falling from “considerable height.” It’s coming to Warzone in the beefy Season 1 update, though a release date hasn’t been set yet.
“The team’s goal is to keep the Mountaineer perk competitive, by giving it a multi-faceted impact on movement. Players must now actively invest in using this perk to see multiple improvements to movement,” Activision said.
Battlefield has had this for years
Battlefield 6 will have a combat roll mechanic, too, and like Call of Duty’s, it appears the roll system in Battlefield 6 may make you feel queasy due to the animation. It’s not the first Battlefield game with a combat roll mechanic, though, as 2018’s Battlefield 5 also had such a system.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launches on November 14, but a multiplayer beta kicks off October 2. As for Battlefield 6, the game arrives on October 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This year marks the first time since 2021 that new entries in both popular FPS franchises are launching in the same year.
