‘Bugonia’ Hosted A Bald-Only Early Screening Event in Los Angeles

In true Yorgos Lanthimos fashion, the upcoming film Bugonia is making headlines for an eccentric marketing twist. Before its official release today (October 24th) , Focus Features offered fans an exclusive early screening on October 20 at the Culver Theater in Los Angeles—but with one unusual requirement: all attendees must be bald or willing to shave their heads.

The rule isn’t a joke. According to a post by DoLA on Instagram, “Are you bald, or willing to shave your head? On Monday, 10/20, head to the Culver Theater for a FREE advanced screening of Bugonia—the new Focus Features fever dream from Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.” A barber will be on-site starting at 6 p.m. for participants ready to commit to the look, and part of the event will reportedly be filmed.

The stunt ties into the film’s storyline, where Emma Stone plays a bald-headed CEO who is kidnapped and suspected of being an alien. Co-starring Jesse Plemons, Alicia Silverstone, Aidan Delbis, and Stavros Halkias, the sci-fi satire has already wowed audiences at Venice, Telluride, and AFI Fest.

Bugonia marks the fourth collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos, following The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness. For those bold enough—or bald enough—this early screening offers a surreal sneak peek into one of 2025’s most talked-about films.
