Earlier this year, the singer-songwriter was asked whether the “mythical” full-band version of his seminal 1982 album was real, which he initially denied, saying: “Well, I can tell you right now, it doesn’t exist.”

Springsteen insisted that “there’s nothing in our vault that would amount to an electric ‘Nebraska’”, shortly before the release of ‘Tracks II: The Lost Albums’. Around the same time, The Boss confirmed that ‘Tracks III’ was already finished.

However, the musician is said to have texted the interviewer a month later to correct himself: “Just wanted to give you a heads-up. I checked our vault and there IS an electric ‘Nebraska’ record though it does not have the full album of songs. All best, Bruce.”

Now, Springsteen has shared details of ‘Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition’ – made up of full-band tracks “from the ‘Electric Nebraska’ sessions” with the E Street Band.

In a trailer for the collection, The Boss said: “Over the years, I’d been asked about electric ‘Nebraska’, and I always thought the question was ridiculous. Finally, I went back into the vault – and lo and behold, there it was.

“It shocked me because of how incredibly different it sounded from most of the other electric things I’d ever done.”

‘Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition’ is described in the clip as “the holy grail” and “what fans have been waiting for”. It is due for release on October 17 via Columbia – pre-order/pre-save here.

In addition to the electric version, the set boasts nine solo acoustic songs that do not feature on the original record, and a full 2025 remaster of the 1982 release. What’s more, there’s a new live recording of Springsteen playing all 10 songs from ‘Nebraska’.

The performance was recorded at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey, and filmed for an accompanying Blu-ray.

Springsteen made the original version of the classic, lo-fi album on a four-track recorder in his bedroom. The E Street Band made full-band versions of those songs, but he wasn’t satisfied with them. He instead released his solo demos as the official LP.

The Boss recently shared ‘Born To Run’ outtake ‘Lonely Night In The Park’ to mark the album’s 50th anniversary.

Meanwhile, he has talked about his decision to give upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere the go-ahead, despite it charting a “difficult” time in his life.
