The official Borderlands 4 soundtrack features new music from Des Rocs and former One Direction star Zayn Malik.
Like previous Borderlands games, the recently-released Borderlands 4 features a mix of original and licensed music.
“Borderlands 4 is the biggest Borderlands yet, with the most ambitious soundtrack in the series history composed by some of the video game industry’s most celebrated composers. Contributing artists such as Finishing Move (Halo, DOOM: The Dark Ages), Cris Velaso (Bloodborne, Lords Of The Fallen), and Joshua Michael Carro (Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands) and Christian Pacuad (New Tales From The Borderlands) feature alongside original music from Des Rocs and Casey Di Lorio,” says the official description.
Yesterday, Des Rocs released his Borderlands 4 anthem ‘This Land’ onto streaming services. “I’ll never forget the first call when they told me what they were looking for in a song for Borderlands 4,” he said in a statement. “I couldn’t stop grinning. They were describing exactly where my heart lies. Rock n’ roll that’s loud, raw, unfiltered, built for a foreign landscape. This song has that unhinged wild energy, the one I felt when I first picked up a guitar. It’s real and it’s rowdy, just like the music I worshipped growing up.”
It’s also been confirmed (via Variety) that Zayn is set to release original song ‘Break Free’ this Friday (September 19). “When I’m not working or with my daughter, my usual place is in front of the console, gaming with my friends back home in the UK,” he explained. “I’ve played Borderlands before, so when I was asked to collaborate on the music, it was a no brainer.”
The track was inspired by the “expressive action” of the new game and sees Zayn “experiment with new sounds.”

“I love the art direction [of Borderlands 4], he continued. “It’s very vivid and expressive and feels very anime. It’s also a narrative game which feels more and more like a rarity these days.” ‘Break Free’ will be the first new music Zayn has released since the ‘Z-Sides’ to 2023’s ‘Room Under The Stairs’.
Yesterday, Borderlands boss Randy Pitchford angered fans by blaming them for the game’s poor performance. “Borderlands 4 is a premium game made for premium gamers” and shouldn’t be expected to run on older computers, he explained. “If you’re trying to drive a monster truck with a leaf blower’s motor, you’re going to be disappointed.”
