Blue Protocol: Star Resonance Kicks Off Beta Soon, Here’s How To Sign Up

Upcoming anime-MMORPG Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is getting ready to host its first English closed beta test, and players can sign up now for a chance to play.

From July 24 through August 14, players can fill out a closed beta application for an opportunity to play. Those selected will be notified from August 15-20. In a press release, publisher A Plus Japan doesn’t actually list the dates for the beta test itself, but it will presumably begin sometime in late August.

Progress from the beta won’t carry over to the free-to-play MMO’s full launch, which is still slated for sometime later this year. However, players can make in-game purchases during the test, with purchases converted to in-game currency at a rebate rate come the game’s full launch.

If the name Blue Protocol sounds familiar, it’s likely because Bandai Namco canceled the Western release of a game sharing the same name earlier this year and pulled the plug on its Japanese servers.

Flash-forward a few months later, and a different developer and publisher picked up the Blue Protocol mantle after striking a deal with Bandai Namco. This new version of the MMO uses many of the original Blue Protocol’s assets and its same world but transforms other aspects of it, like its combat and progression systems, into what is essentially a new game–Blue Protocol: Star Resonance. While the original Blue Protocol was slated to release on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, Star Resonance will only be on PC and mobile, at least for now.

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance isn’t the only free-to-play anime MMO trying to make a name for itself. Tower of Fantasy, for example, released globally in 2022 and still receives new content, and while technically not an MMO, games like Genshin Impact feature a similar anime-action RPG aesthetic.
