BioShock boss Strauss Zelnick has promised that the long-awaited BioShock 4 hasn’t been cancelled despite reports of an “overhaul”.
BioShock 4 was announced back in 2019 but last week, a report claimed the game was in “turmoil” after it failed an internal review and publishers 2K Games were set to “overhaul” the project. Two senior developers have been removed from the project and there were concerns about further lay-offs after staff were told the studio had to be more “agile and efficient”.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has now confirmed BioShock 4 won’t be cancelled. “It’s going to come out. That I can say hand on heart, without question,” he said in an interview with IGN.
“The strategy of this company has always been to make the best entertainment, not necessarily the most entertainment. I think some of our competitors have realized maybe a little late in the day that consumers are not okay with okay. Good is the new bad, great is the new great. And our goal here is to make everything exceptional,” he explained.
“We don’t talk about how long our development cycles are. We have had some ups and downs along the way. That is accurate. And we have had changes in studio leadership. That said, we have very big shoes to fill [because[ the legacy of what has gone before, which has been so successful,” he continued.
“We need to make sure that this experience is true to the BioShock DNA on the one hand, and a massive step forward on the other hand. That’s always challenging. We think we’re up to the challenge, but it has not been seamless.”

As part of the report, it was claimed that a remake of 2007’s original BioShock was also shelved. Earlier this year, The Boys‘ Jack Quaid revealed that his dream role would be in a live action adaptation of Bioshock. “It’s one of my favourite games of all time.”
In other news, the latest Fortnite update has introduced a number of bug-like aliens to the game, with many fans accusing developers of ripping off Helldivers 2.
