According to a press release, more than seven million copies of Battlefield 6 were sold in its first three days. “Thanks to the series’ passionate community, the game had over 172 million matches played online and accumulated over 15 million hours watched on streaming services during the 3-day weekend as well as earning the most concurrent players for Battlefield ever,” the release continues.

Battlefield currently has a “generally favourable” review score of 83 out of 100 according to aggregate site Metacritic and has earned a “very positive” rating on Steam, where more than 225,000 gamers are playing concurrently.

“First and foremost we want to thank our players,” said the franchise’s general manager Byron Beede. “Battlefield 6 was built with our fans. From the initial concept through to the implementation of Battlefield Labs and into the record-shattering Open Beta we have been obsessed with player feedback. Together, with our players we’ve had a singular goal: to craft the best Battlefield ever. And this is just the beginning – our first season of new content is just 12 days away.”

“We never take moments like this for granted, so I want to express our sincere gratitude to our global Battlefield Studios and passionate community that has helped get us to this point,” added Executive Vice President Vince Zampella. “We appreciate you joining us for Battlefield 6’s momentous launch. We have so much more to come in the weeks ahead.”

In a three star review, NME wrote: “Providing a twist on the traditional Battlefield plotline and some picturesque new locations to enjoy (and destroy), this latest instalment will satisfy fans looking for more of the same only different. The real highlights, though, are to be found in the campaign from which the new multi-player battle settings are culled, as if the PVP element the series is famed for is now the side content. As such, the title is unbalanced; more campaign would make the package meatier and more rewarding for those players less inclined to hours of US marine cosplay with their lingo-toting online squads.”
