Gaming fans have been praising the addictive new puzzler Ball x Pit, comparing it to last year’s viral hit Balatro.
Created by indie game developer Kenny Sun and published by Devolver Digital, Ball x Pit is a “a brick-breaking, ball-fusing, base-building survival roguelite” that launched last week (October 15).
“Ballbylon has fallen. After a meteoric and completely unexpected event annihilated the great city, all that remains is an ominous, yawning pit. Treasure hunters from far and wide flock to the city’s tomb to seek their fortune, plumbing the depths in search of Ballbylon’s scattered riches. Few return,” reads the game’s official description. “The pit plays host to armies of barbaric creatures, hellbent on ending your quest before it even begins. Armed with a growing arsenal of magic-infused projectiles, batter your way through multiple levels of increasingly challenging obstacles to claim the ultimate prizes and rebuild New Ballbylon.”
Players have to “batter hordes of enemies with ricocheting balls and gather the riches of the pit to expand your homestead, generate resources and recruit unique heroes.” You can also create different combinations of balls to unlock a range of powers that will tear through waves of enemies.
The game is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC, as well as Xbox Game Pass. According to a post on X, Ball x Pit has sold more than 300,000 copies in five days. “Been too overwhelmed for a formal announcement post but Ball x Pit [is out] and I’m stunned by the response! I’m very grateful to everyone who helped make it possible,” added Kenny Sun.

Ball x Pit currently has an “overwhelmingly positive” review score on digital storefront Steam and fans have been praising the game all over the internet.
“Whew this game is addictive.I think the biggest reason is that while you have the grindy, satisfying progression treadmill, the gameplay also feels very skill-based and strategic. If you’re not quite strong enough for a level, you can turn the speed all the way down, try to catch your balls, try to calculate your angles, and potentially do a lot better than you would otherwise,” one fan wrote on gaming forum ResetEra.
“Shit, I spent 4 hours on this game before I realised I was supposed to be asleep,” another fan wrote on Reddit. “More people need to know about this game. It’s sooooo addicting!!!,” said a third on X.
2025 has been a huge year for indie games, with both Hollow Knight: Silksong and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 amongst the best-reviewed titles of 2025.
In other news, Grand Theft Auto 6 fans believe a new trailer for the long-awaited sequel will drop next month, two years after the first teaser was shared.
