One of the best RPGs of this decade might be in development for Switch 2. A reliable leaker has namechecked Baldur’s Gate 3 as a possibility for Nintendo’s new console, though admits more information is needed before fully providing more details.
NateTheHate2 responded to a question on X about Baldur’s Gate 3, implying the RPG could be in the works for Switch 2. “Have heard something on [Baldur’s Gate 3] for [Switch 2] but need more verification on it before I can share,” wrote the leaker, who has previously nailed when Nintendo Direct and PlayStation State of Play events would happen.
GameSpot has reached out to Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios for comment.
A month ago, Larian released a native version of Baldur’s Gate 3 specifically for Steam Deck. What’s intriguing is that the developer specifically noted that the new portable version helped lead to “overall improvements to the way game models are streamed on all platforms.” Currently, Baldur’s Gate 3 is only available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S–but there’s a world where these improvements could be utilized on a new platform like Switch 2.
However, keep in mind that Larian faced challenges with bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox Series S, leading to the game coming to Xbox later than PC and PS5. Split-screen co-op was one of the main technical difficulties with the Xbox Series S port, which could be a hangup for Switch 2, too.
Baldur’s Gate 3 celebrated its second anniversary in August, with Larian sharing fun facts about player data for the game. For instance, just a bit over 2% of players defeated 20 enemies while drunk.
