Alan Ritchson and Kevin James Bring Big Dad Energy to ‘Playdate’

Alan Ritchson is trading Reacher’s stoic brutality for suburban dad chaos in Playdate, a new action-comedy from director Luke Greenfield (Let’s Be Cops). Known for his larger-than-life presence and surprisingly goofy sense of humor online, Ritchson leans into full comedic mode alongside Kevin James.

The result? A story that transforms an ordinary afternoon between fathers into a full-blown, high-stakes adventure. With emotional depth, high-energy action, and an unlikely duo at its core, Playdate is shaping up to be one of the most unique buddy comedies in years.

Cast & Plot

Ritchson stars as Jeff, an overly charismatic stay-at-home dad whose friendly exterior hides some very dangerous secrets. Kevin James plays Brian, an unemployed accountant desperately trying to connect with his stepson. What begins as a simple playdate quickly spirals when Brian realizes Jeff’s past comes loaded with mercenaries, mayhem, and a whole lot of baggage.

Despite the wild premise, the heart of the story lies in fatherhood. Both men are figuring out how to be good dads — even without strong role models of their own. The supporting cast includes Isla Fisher, Alan Tudyk, and Stephen Root, all bringing unexpected comedic and emotional beats to the escalating madness.

Release Date

Playdate will be available to stream on Wednesday, November 12 on Prime Video.
