Earlier this year, a spoof sketch aired that saw Sarah Sherman play a version of Wood’s White Lotus character Chelsea, with exaggerated false teeth.

At the time Wood took to her Instagram Stories to respond to the sketch, which she described as “mean and unfunny”.

“Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple of weeks ago,” she added. “Yes, take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about- but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”

SNL later contacted the star and apologised for the sketch.

Now, Wood has reiterated that she stands by what she said. She told BBC News: “I don’t regret saying it because it was breaking a pattern, which is what I would usually do – what I did when I was younger and got bullied.”

Wood added that on seeing the sketch, she thought: “I have a choice here to go in and be embarrassed about it and just say ‘I didn’t like that. It was mean’.”

She added: “No matter what chaos came from it, I’m still happy for me and my personal journey that I said something.

“I’ve gone into meetings with directors that I’ve admired and burst into tears and not been able to say a word and I think that kind of urge is always to correct, to say ‘I’m so sorry that I just did something messy’ and actually you didn’t do anything wrong.”

Wood is set to star in the BBC drama Film Club which is set to air on BBC iPlayer from October 7 and BBC One the following day (October 8).

Meanwhile, the next series of The White Lotus is set to take place in France HBO’s Casey Bloys recently confirmed to Deadline.
