2K Teases College Basketball Game And “Surprises” In Early 2026

NBA 2K26 launches this week, but that’s not the only major development from 2K Sports. The company has confirmed plans to launch its own “college basketball experience” just after reports suggested that EA’s college basketball game was running into potentially serious issues.

In its statement, 2K Sports said, “Yes, it’s true. We’re working on a college basketball experience that will feature more than 100 programs from across the country, from powerhouses to Cinderella stories.”

Without getting into specifics, 2K’s statement continued, “Our approach with college basketball ensures our partner schools, college athletes, and our players all benefit.”

As for when 2K’s new college basketball “experience” might release, the company said “you won’t have to wait long to start seeing your favorite colleges show up in game.” The developer said it has “big plans for 2027 and beyond” and “a few surprises coming in early 2026.”

“We’ve proven the quality of the basketball experience we can deliver for years, and have every intention to bring that same level of quality to college hoops,” 2K said, signing off its message with, “Ball over everything.”

2K had a college basketball franchise and ran it for years, but College Hoops 2K8 was the last entry in that series in 2007. EA’s NCAA Basketball series, meanwhile, ended with 2009’s NCAA Basketball 10.

When EA announced its own college basketball revival in June, 2K said it was also working on a college basketball project. However, just recently, a memo from an EA higher-up came to light and suggests that EA’s own college basketball game is not going forward, with schools opting to partner with 2K instead.

Basketball is very big business for 2K, as its NBA 2K series has sold more than 162 million units to date.

While EA’s college basketball series may not return soon, or ever, the company is enjoying big success with its newly re-launched College Football series. The 2024 game, College Football 25, was a huge success, driving more than $1 billion in revenue, while College Football 26 is already 2025’s No. 3 best-selling game in the US.
